SatSense continues to support STEM students to drive innovation

Over the last few years, SatSense has continued to develop and provide innovative InSAR solutions worldwide. Whether it be creating custom products with ESA for the water utility sector or helping national rail operators monitor their assets with millimetre per year level precision across their vast network, we have continuously innovated based on the challenges that our customers present to us. A major source of talent for our growth has been our close association with several leading universities across the UK.

Our partnership with universities offers us access to high-calibre academics and allows us to contribute to the development of algorithms and groundbreaking new capabilities in the industry. Over the last 3 years, we have supported numerous PhD studentships and this year too, we are happy to support more students on their InSAR journey. As we kick off the studentships program for 2024, let us hear what our CEO Dr Matthew Bray thinks about our partnership with the University of Leeds.

“SatSense has a close working relationship with academic experts at the University of Leeds, where our founders Professors Andy Hooper and Tim Wright are based. One way of carrying out cutting-edge R&D has been to support PhD researchers. We have supported numerous PhD studentships in the SENSE Centre for Doctoral Training as a CASE partner. These students have benefited from the expertise of supervisors at SatSense and the University. They have been working on new advanced algorithms with the aim of improving existing approaches to deformation monitoring and developing new capabilities. These students (and SatSense!) also benefit from a 3-month placement within the company.

One student, Daniel Sefton, worked on a project to improve flood mapping algorithms using SAR data, which was supported by the University’s iCASP program . We have been pleased to support master’s students by providing access to data sets and technical support as required, and this often leads to employment following studies. We are pleased to continue to support PhD programmes at the University of Leeds, including the proposed Yorkshire Environmental Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership.”

By collaborating with the university on our studentship program, we maintain our position at the forefront of innovation in the InSAR industry. If you are a PhD student looking to join our team and gain valuable experience, please reach out to us at careers@satsense.com . We look forward to hearing from you and exploring how you can contribute to our mission of making ground movement data more accessible.
